Re: I am sure tin knows that

It is violent. It is based on a true story of the crimes and gangs on the streets in an area that is called "City of God", which apparently is a place in Brazil where they "house" the lower classes. It sort of reminded me of the camps in Nazi Germany, with the exception that the people were free to leave at will. Buy they always returned.

The film depicts the life of crime, which includes selling and marketing drugs, murder, and robbery. What I really appreciated was that the filmmaker was able to cover a lot of territory, while focusing on a few charachters which allows the viewer to become involved in the story.

The "protaganist", who wrote a magazine article upon which the movie was based, grew up in the "City of God", and was friends with many of the subjects. He developed a fascination with photography, and so was allowed access to the gangs because they so wanted their photographs to be taken. He then commuted between the City of God and the real city to work for a magazine.

It would certainly be on my top ten for that year. But it is violent, and there is coarse language (though it is subtitled).
