You actually believe the "Robin Hood" myths about a man who personally killed at least one cop, and whose murderous partners were utterly ruthless. When his pals killed indiscriminately, he stayed with them. Do you actually believe he was a teddy bear because he didn't do the killing personally? He was a psychopath...virtually by definition. Depp played Dillinger like he was a shoe saleman; none of the hair trigger threshold for violence that's necessary to become a leader over other violent criminals. For acting, Gandolfini's Soprano was much more true to type.
