Did you have indigestion?

Haven't seen either movie, and quite honestly, I probably never will. From reading reviews it sounds like Barney's Version is weak, especially on plot, with some redeeming performances. As the protagonist's 3 marriages figure large in what plot there is, why get upset over "Mazel tov"?! The film is based on a very well regarded book, but like many of its ilk, the screen adpatation doesn't surpass (or even get close to) the quality of the page.

In Casino Jack, it sounds like the filmmakers attempted to tell a very complicated story of political greed and chicanery and couldn't pull it off (no Charlie Wilson's War, this). There's still a fascinating story to be told in this material, with either Abramoff or DeLay at the center. Maybe someone some day will do it better. Probably not, alas.

There is a lot of Jewish culture woven into the fabric of American life and that's fine with me (a shiksa BTW). A great deal of American humor is surely based on it, and where would American popular song be without master Jewish songwriters? (Not to mention African Americans, my God, there's a scary thought.)

I'm happy to entertain any type of ethnicity in my entertainment if the movie itself is good - it's a proper subject or subtext for a film as long as it says something about being human.

Why not just admit you picked some bad movies that incidentally feature Jewish characters?

How about some seriously good Israeli movies, like those by Eran Riklis - Lemon Tree and The Syrian Bride - who has a new one coming out very soon (The Human Resource Director) that's supposed to be excellent.

Bad is bad and mediocre is mediocre - the ethnicity doesn't have anything intrinsic to do with that.

Take some bicarbonite.
