Except for "Hell's Angels" and stretches of "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72" and F&L Las Vegas there just isn't anything to base any sort of cohesive story on, especially
since most of what HT wrote read SO incohesive at heart.

Thompson's style (eventually) relied on HIS drug/alcohol infused nihilistic/ridiculous behavior/exploits with occasional flashes of brilliance.

Makes for often great reading but the exploits are all basically vignettes. Doesn't mean that Hollywood and Depp won't keep trying, for whatever end reason(s) suite them.

Thompson turned himself into a cartoon, and that's probably the best way to portray him on the screen - 5 minute cartoons before the feature of a
particularly fucked-up Daffy Duck with a cigarette holder....
