My pick for best line in the movie delivered by a fat-cat American business man and crook ready to make a killing in Puerto Rican real estate in 1960.
Depp conveyed a rather shallow Hunter Thompson is the film that was seriously lacking in purpose. As with other Hunter Thompson movies it's all about atmosphere of being crazy and messed up on alcohol and drugs. There are a few cute one-liners but we saw those in the trailer.
I would like to say this film could have been something but I just don't see it. Aaron Eckhardt and Amber Heard only served to add character and pretty up the scenery a bit but not much else.
Too bad HT has never been served well by Hollywood.
Not recommended.

Agnew, Reagan) they were. Who have conservatives to answer the call?
I'll agree that NO movie can do justice to Thompson's writing or character. It's all in the books and just doesn't translate to a visual medium--- writing style is a world of its own.
You might concentrate on film and not personal politics.

Except for "Hell's Angels" and stretches of "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72" and F&L Las Vegas there just isn't anything to base any sort of cohesive story on, especially
since most of what HT wrote read SO incohesive at heart.Thompson's style (eventually) relied on HIS drug/alcohol infused nihilistic/ridiculous behavior/exploits with occasional flashes of brilliance.
Makes for often great reading but the exploits are all basically vignettes. Doesn't mean that Hollywood and Depp won't keep trying, for whatever end reason(s) suit them.
Thompson turned himself into a cartoon, and that's probably the best way to portray him on the screen - 5 minute cartoons before the feature of a
particularly fucked-up Daffy Duck with a cigarette holder....

and agree that his writing style doesn't lend itself to a film. This film reflects his feelings on Nixon but does not focus on politics as its main topic.
My pick for favorite line is creative and so in context with 1960..priceless.
