Hi Erock
I had EXACTLY the same problem with a Pioneer DVD. Unfortunately mine's disconnected at the moment because I'm in the middle of mi=oving, but I had to connect BOTH the composite and s-video connections to the same port (AV3, I think).
Give it a try and if you still have problems, send me an e-mail, as I hope to connect mine up agin in a few days
