i would use a 2-way splitter, which will feed 'raw'(non-scrambled)cable to your cable input on your tv,the other cable goes to the cable box. then either use an a/v patch cable(if you have that connection on your descrambler/cable box)or coax into your vcr; then USE AN A/V CABLE FROM YOUR VCR TO YOUR TV'S A/V INPUT. this should give the best picture/sound, AND accomplish your objective.
