But, as jk points out, it must be in a darkened room. I assume that, to a lesser extent, rear projection TVs are better without too much bright light.

No problem here. We have a couple of normal CRT TVs for day viewing (not much) and do nearly all viewing at night. BTW we have a CRT projector (Barco) with 5000+ hours on it. Only wish replacement tubes were as cheap as quoted by some guy but they seem to have plenty of life left yet.

And, combine your projector with a great sound system and you will rarely want to look for entertainment outside the home. Reason - it will be inferior :-)
