I have also read lots of negative posts on Def techs for 2 channel.
However, I have always been happy with the sound from my 5 year old 3 10B's. I have thenm hooked up for 2 channel on a vintage Mac C 28 premap, and a newer MC-162 Macintosh Amp. The sound is fantastic.
For HT, I use 2 other amps for center , rears and sub.
Keep the Sony, run the center and rears from it, and get some used Macintosh, my suggestion. What I do is set the volume on the Mac, and then use the remote to bring up the center and rears.
See my system posted on this site, for more details. People with more expensive HT set ups have been impressed with the sound from my set up.
