Help with a simple question about DVD players

I posted a note at Soundstage on this and got what I think was a wrong answer. It certainly was a condescending one, so I'd like to post it here and hopefully will get better responses.
I am considering a DVD player, but I do not own home theater speakers or receiver. I just want to use the DVD player as I use my VCR, ie run the sound through the television's speakers. Can I do this? I am considering the Pioneer DVD525. Doug Blackburn stated in his response to me that most DVD players do not have and RF output to permit this. Is that true? Does the 525?
