720p because the HD sports channels such as ESPN broadcast native 720p THe only place the 1080p set could possibly offer anything more is if you regularly watch HD or Blue Ray disks, since they are native 1080p and get downconverted on a 720p set. But the a cable network such as the discovery channel is 1080i and your set will do fine with that. There is some talk on projectorcentral that 1080i converted directly to 1080p is ever so slightly sharper in theory at least, but I don't really buy into that.Whatever differences exist arent worth the $
