Need help find a GOOD buget receiver for a friend...

Well,. I've not lurked around here in quite a while although I pop in here & there when investigating new & interesting things.

On with the quest: I have a friend who has a "theater in a box" setup and the receiver is dieing. I took him out to the box stores and I was afraid to recommend anything not being in the market and not having done any of this type of research recently. (several years) I believe the Denon is a decent product, but I knew noting about the current models they had. I bought the 5700 about 10 years ago and it's been no problem, sounds great, etc.

I did manage to convince him that he ought to just replace the receiver for now, which means he'll need a powered sub as his current sub is driven by the receiver. I lurked here for a few hours today and shot off an email for him to order the HSU STF-2 sub which from all I've read, about the best bang for $349.00 he's gonna get.

Can anyone recommend a decent receiver in the range of $399.00 to say $550.00 (ish)?
