SXRD and D-ILA are similar in that they are both 3-chip/3-panel implementations of LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon).
The advantages of a 3-chip DLP projector are:
1. Tremendous light output compared to other projectors.
2. No "rainbow effect" due to no need for a color wheel like single-chip DLP projectors.
3. All other things being equal, a 3-chip DLP will have the best black level/shadow detail of the various fixed-pixel projector technologies.
Having said that, I think the only real advantage you'd find in a typical usage situation is with #1 above. LCoS projectors don't suffer from rainbows, and LCoS black level/shadow detail competes well with DLP.
So, unless light output is your primary concern, you'd probably be better off with a 1080p LCoS projector than the 720p 3-chipper DLP. On a typically-sized projection screen, at typical viewing distances, with HD DVD or Blu-ray media, the difference between 720p and 1080p is vast.
