Are you sure you aren't being bothered by the preamp of the Onkyo? They aren't that great, though they do sound better than most under $1000 receivers I have heard, and I find them more than acceptable for watching videos. I simply use my main amp for front R&L and the Onkyo amps for the center and rear, where it does a reasonable job. If you have access to your main amps from the Onkyo preamp, you might just try that hybrid before you lay out any money for additional amps. I get to my main amps through a processor bypass on my audio preamp. I've never heard better or even equal movie sound in any theater I've been in.
