Sources again!

Audio sources are usually Left/Right, so no rocket science there ;-!

Sometimes, they are SP/DIF or Toslink. This is still old-school stuff, fortunately.

There my understanding starts going downhill. I know that HDMI is the latest and greatest stuff (this year, at least). HDMI-II, is there such a thing??

Anyway, I do PRESUME, that even if I get a Blu-ray player, which I have not purchased yet, that I can always get a 5.1 Digital output, I presume it is also SP/DIF or Toslink.

Does that put me so far behind the ball to rely upon 5.1 (is that basically Dolby, that almost all DVDs use, but blu-ray, what does that use??)

No, I haven't thought about amplification, but there are lots of inexpensive old 5.1 Receivers out there.
