I say Giant, his most complete effort. Jett goes from a modest but ambitious guy to an overblown drunk, convincingly, in a heroic performance. Poor Rock, playing the hero, came off wooden, boring, and trite. Still, it was Rock~s best performance. If Dean would have lived to make another movie, it would have been difficult to convince any other actor to try and play opposite him.
Follow Ups:
Yaaaaaa!!!
I have seen Giant and East of Eden. Haven't seen Rebel. I liked Giant but it is a long sprawling movie that can be hard to get into. Dean's performance is fairly small and surly. I did see East of Eden quite a while ago so don't remember details but it was the movie that made me think that Dean really had something.
I would say it was in "Seconds". He is quite believable as a remade middle aged man trying to start a new life as an artist. The scene where he visits his former wwife still chills me.
I think I only saw two of his films, "Giant" and "Rebel without a Cause".I agree that he was even better in "Giant". Both were remarkable, special, and unique performances and he was even better in "Giant".
