seen a film of this caliber in a really long time...Solid performances by the main characters and nicely directed by Nick Cassavettes ( takes after his father I guess). I honestly cannot remember the last time a movie impacted me the way this one did....Maybe since Schindler's List....Anyway throughly enjoyed it and heartily recommend it....
Follow Ups:
I agree with your comments. I thought Rachel McAdams did a particularly fine job in her part as the younf woman.
...for Allie and Duke was a little too pat, too 'hollywood', but even that didn't spoil it for me. I liked Garner best, I think.
I keep thinking his finest hour was the HBO production of Barbarians at the Gate - a hilarious comedy.
"The Americanization Of Emily".....funny that both he and Julie Andrews agree that this is their favorite film that they have been in....I will need to rent it one of these days....
I'd add "Murphy's Romance" to his greatest roles also.BTW, Norman, Oklahoma, his hometown (about 50 miles down the road from me) is in the planning stage of a town square memorializing him. Too bad he didn't get great roles earlier in his career. But he was, IMO, one of the best American television actors around.
In Vino Veritas
