In Reply to: Just watched "Streets of Laredo", is "Lonesome Dove" worth watching? posted by grinagog on September 13, 2005 at 02:35:51:
One of Robert Duval's greatest performances-he really gets under the skin of the philosophical Texas Ranger/cattle rancher Augustus McCrae. Crackling good dialogue and a knockout cast. I won't go quite as far as Road Warrior on Frederic Forrest's performance as the evil Blue Duck, but he is clearly the weakest link. I can think of at least a dozen character actors of Indian/Hispanic descent who would have done better-kinda reminds of the casting of Eli Wallach as a Mexican villain in both The Good, The Bad & The Ugly and Magnificent Seven (although Wallach is a better actor than Forrest). The DVD sucks rancid pond water, unfortunately-not much better than VHS. This title really does deserves a better release.

Most definitely not present in Lonesome Dove, nor is Selleck.
ice cream, I presume) and must have mixed it up with some other tv oater in which Selleck was featured. Sorry. I don't watch tv, much.
look at the reviews of their acting. When Tommy Lee Jones, Diane Lane, Robert Duvall, Angelica Houston are in prime form, you got somethng good going on. Plus all but one of the supporting jobs excellent. This is a six hour committment tho....
