A very convoluted love story, heavy on style, with NO plot. The complex forward-backward herky-jerky time sequences induce a state of delirious confusion which may lead to... euphoria. Or a headache.
I found it maddening at times though at no time did I feel like bailing: I've been thinking about it all afternoon, actually.
It's kind of like the feeling one has after eating strange and exotic foods, with very strong, rich flavors, for the first time: the intellect is confounded.
It's original, thought-provoking, and singularly brilliant.

And took a *very* long time to make. It was much anticipated, but got mixed reactions. I haven't seen it yet. Supposedly its not Wong Kar-Wai's best work.
I offer this alternative view from the critic at Salon, which comes rather close to my own take on 2046, a film I would see twice on the big screen...just because it's so beautiful.
..is near perfect, with a completely haunting soundtrack.
