Boggie or Robert? I presume you mean the classic, but Mitchum (1978) is one of my favorite actors too. And I LOVE Sarah Miles...
Yeah, the classic. I'm a big fan of Hawks' films.I also like Mitchum, but I *really* like him in roles where he plays a crazed bad guy as he does in "Night of the Hunter" and "Cape Fear".
Every time I think about that film I get that nasty taste in my mouth. Is it because of Mitchum's performance that the effect is far more pronounced than that of the cardboard cutout De Niro's?
I think you're probably right. Mitchum very subtly manages to convey that he knows what he's doing is wrong in his villainous performances. Instead of cold-bloodedness, he gives the viewer the warmth of rotting character.
Hi,
i like most anything Mitchum is in, but i have never watched the whole of that film. You got it right, it's nasty.
A prerelease version from 1945 which was longer than the one which was finally edited to feature more of Bacall in '46. The first version is longer and more cohesive; the second features more chemistry between Bogart and Bacall. Both versions are on the DVD.AuPh
