to Sir Alec Guinness in the Lean, "O T." It ain't just the cinematography that has immortalized the film! Personal preference: Alistair Sim to me is unsurpassable in any role. His detective in, "Green Room," is immortal.
Thanks for the post: you've energized me to both look at Dicken's films and to go to the source.
("Great Expectations" is my favorite, though "David Copperfield" comes in a close second...)
I am not sure everyone actually gets the meaning of Dickensian literature.
Agree on the Sim version with its expanded story line. Actors make a difference, and scripts as well. I also like Paul Schofield in Martin Chuzzlewit, or anything else for that matter.
