Didn't like it. Disappointed. Don't like McAvoy; he's a creep...in any role. The screenplay tried to give the real Garrigan some undeserved humanity; he was a nasty selfish prick who knew exactly what was going on. Too little about the circumstances of Amin's Uganda. Wasted opportunity was right there with Jillian Anderson's mission character. Whittaker did well, but he certainly didn't break any new ground. Strong start in Amin character study ended weakly with Amin the buffoon. Unimaginitive use of actual Ugandan settings. Unremarkable camera work.
with horrific ending, though I did forget I was watching FW as Amin, he was terrific.
Not that he didn't do a good job but that he was barely on screen enough to merit supporting actor status.
Don't piss on my shoe and tell me it's raining.
I think Forrest Whittaker's performance is worth the price of admission, but I think the plot was unbelievable. For example, Garrigan having an affair with one of Amin's wives...yah, right...go to bed with the wife of a brutal dictator...
Amin was almost a lovable guy, thanks to the script. You're right, not enough of the "real" story was shown and, on the whole, was totally over-hyped.
