He certainly was not a very good actor, making too much and his style very forced.
In later years in smaller roles he was doing right a job.

  Right...
  He was, in fact a VERY good actor and sometimes even great.
  You should spend some more time with his films and re-evaluate.
  Seems to me you're missing out on some excellent films and acting.
