If anything, the 80G model is probably cheaper to manufacture as it omits the Emotion Engine chip, and blue laser costs are fallen a lot. Want full PS/2 backwards compatibility in hardware? Then it might be a good time to get a 60G model while they last. The good news is, the supply should last awhile: That's what Kaz Hirai says (see link), and I believe him, because the PS/3 that I purchased yesterday was manufactured in January.
