Do the monsters still look like guys wearing bed sheets? I would be very disappointed if they "cleaned" that up and made them look real ;-)
except he blinks!
They've mostly just tweaked things. Backdrops are still paintings, foam rocks etc.
You know, I'm not a Trekkie, and never was. Outside of a few episodes I saw flipping through the channels, I haven't seen TOS in years. I'm surprsed how good this looks, and I'm surprised just how much I'm enjoying this. This is what HD is all about.

On the "doomsday machine" the planet eater is totally different. Different model, different affects and different sounds. They do however use some of the footage of the original planet eater but even the starships are new and different models on this episode. I actually like the upgrades!
Arena, with the Gorn is one of my all time favorite episodes!
That's season 2. I liked what I saw of it though. It still kept with the spirit of the show. The sounds are thye same-FX people said they didn't have access to the audio track. The Romulan ship in Balance of Terror is totally redone. I liked it. I didn't really care for what they did with the ship in The Corbamite Manuver.

Yep, for some reason, I cannot get enough of the original series. I purchased all of the VHS-hifi tapes when they came out and the sound quality is rather magnificient on those. I may take the plunge for these discs. Still on the damned fence with hi def though. 1080i VS 1080p, HD dvd VS Blu ray, Ceiling mounted projector VS wall mount LCD or plasma and my cable service is way too unaffordable for HD..so it would mean satt service of some sort. The funny thing is visiting a friend that has 5 plasma tv's and satt service, I was annoyed by the "fat bodies" and distortion, possible due to his default setting. One channel was wavering in and out between the proper aspect ratio and that of "fat squaty" figures. Damn, I get more authenticity on my 13 inch crap tv in the bedroom!
Being that I may watch 15 hours per week of video of any kind, movie/tv and news combined, it is no wonder I am in this perdicament at this time.
Thank you for your notes :)
The salt creature looks the same. I haven't seen the Gorn episode yet, will watch tonight. Most of the new FX have involved the space shots. The Enterprise, planets etc. I'll let you know if there's anything really drastic. The reviews have said that they didn't "Lucasize" the show.
Oh, and there's still grain.
