My DVD play $h!t the bed again. It seems like I got through one about every 12-18 months. Now, I buy a cheap $60-80 one at BJs. Maybe if I bought a better one it would last longer. On the other hand, if they are going to die every few years, I'm happier to be the cheapest made.
So, anyone have any idea why? The thing just doesn't recognize disks anymore?
Any recommendations for one that's not too much $$$ but will be more reliable? I'm convinced it's not cost effective to go real expensive. If a $150-200 one would really really really be better and more importantly, more reliable, i'd consider it. If not, it's back to BJs for another $75 player.
Oh, I do have a Monster 2000MKii something or other power strip

I bought one pretty much when they came out about 10 years ago (Sony DVD-S3000 or something; cost me $950 or so). Works fine to this day. So does my Panny player (~5 years old) and my Pioneer recorder (~2-3 years old). Never had a problem with one of them. Spend a bit more.

Well I took it apart and took a look. The disk wasn't spinning. I gave it a push and it started and then loaded. I then unloaded and reloaded a few times and it spun up each time and loaded. I guess the motor must just have been stuck.
I'll let it be for now and upgrade next Xmas if it doesn't die before then.
you'll love it.
I agree 100%. Purchased the inexpensive Oppo and am getting a picture that is just this side of HD while not actually being HD/Blue Ray. You will not be sorry. For an interim player that will satisfy for some time - have had the machine since last November - until the dust settles on this new Blue Ray thing, this is the way to go.

I have NEVER had one fail. However, I've never bought $75 players. $200-$300 buys an excellent machine but, of course, all electronics can fail.
