The Marantz UD9004, striving for optimal video and audio, was designed to output the video and audio via separate HDMI outputs (see upper right area of rear panel, to the left of the fan). Isn't this a serious design flaw since AV receivers/preamps use a single input when switching between sources? Wouldn't you need to have two inputs selected simultaneously to handle both the audio and video from the UD9004, or does the video HDMI output carry all the corresponding audio content?

One HDMI output is audio-only for listening to CD, DVD-A and SACD. The other HDMI output is video+audio for all discs. Use one or both as needed.

the lack thereof.

That and the Denon seems to be very similar for significantly less cost.

all I could think of it could be used for the 2 inputs on the tv.you can watch the tv only.or switch it to the other input to go thru the reciever first.

Yeah, probably something like that. One output can be set up for an A/V system and one maybe separately set up for an audio-only system. IOW it is possible it's not a fully dual HDMI output (like one for a display and one to a projector). Just guessing, too lazy to look it up... But yes, HDMI audio/video are usually switched together. I could actually use something like this (if it *is* like this), but fully dual HDMI output, each individually programmable as to setup and not just copies of each other, would be even better (and it may be that).Edit: sorry, I should have said this in case it's not generally known: it is very common with better HDMI players to be able to turn off the video at source when listening to audio-mostly discs, should you choose to. This typically also turns off the player's front panel display too, but it comes on momentarily when navigating.
