Hi,
I have a new 65" Panasonic GT30 plasma television. It is been in use for about 6-7 weeks and showing a great picture. It has not been calibrated yet but will be. in the next few months or so.
I have on hand an older Audioquest HDMI cable that I have been using. It is an Audioquest HDMI 1 2M. I always liked the picture quality cable delivered but I decided that I would step up and try one of the more modern Audioquest HDMI cables expecting probably some improvements.
I purchased the Carbon 2M model and to my surprise I do not prefer it over the older HDMI 1 cable. There are not night and day differences but I enjoy the picture quality more with the HDMI 1. I was surprised. I don't have much experience with HDMI cables and other brands but I have gone back and forth over and over and critically with both and have come to the same conclusion each time. So some questions come to mind:
1. The HDMI 1 is well used. Does the Carbon need time to break in and I am too hasty in my evaluation?
2. Do I need to consider stepping further up the Audioquest line to the Vodka?
3. Or are there some other manufacturers cables that can be recommended.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

have gold plated connections, and are built like tanks. I can't imagine a better pic from my 65" Panny plasma. Be aware these heavy, 24 guage cables, aren't terribly flexible. My sound engineer's installation team was blown away by their quality. They had brought an Audioquest hi dollar cable and both installers simply couldn't believe the build quality of the Monos. Got a big fat credit on the installation fee.

Hi Road Warrior,
This is exactly the type of information I was hoping to receive. I had researched the archives a bit and came upon the Monoprice name for the 1st time.
Looking at reviews on CNET I found that all the editors use Monoprice at work and at home so that is the official recommendation from CNET too.
So I have seen quite a few recommendations all positive.
I have ordered a 24 gauge 6ft. Silver plated High Speed HDMI cable from Monoprice to try. Price was only $9.67.
The connection will be from my FIOS DVR to the TV so for flexibility issues it will only have to enter my AV stand from my TV and connect to the DVR. Probably not going to be a problem. Thanks for the heads up on this possible issue though.
Would be nice to find a good a really good brand of cable I like as I will be adding a Blu-Ray player soon and will then need a good cable for that too.
I have returned the Audioquest Carbon as it was not a cost effective improvement to what I was using.
Thank you
JimF
I use mine from Blu Ray to Home theater receiver, DVR to receiver, and receiver to TV in both the media and living rooms. Total price was less than the one Audioquest my Sound Engineer initially recommended.
Didn't know silver was an option. Possibly wasn't when I bought back in Febr...

I happened to notice the silver plating option on the same cable on just a few of the sizes, such as 6ft, 10ft, and 15ft. Not on the others. Decided to go for it. It only added about $2.50 to the cost.
Looking forward to using it in my system.
Thank you
JimF
