An 8-part series on the FX channel that revives an old Elmore Leonard character, Raylan Givens, from a previous 5-year series, "Justified". Tim Olyphant reprises his character. It's a dark series with all of the seedy goodies.

The sequel is set in Detroit, but shows a city that I can imagine Detroit wanted no part of. It was filmed in Chicago and in a Chicago studio. The Detroit it portrays resembles one that harks back to Purple Gang days, combined with corruption, thug cops, post-60's racism, and rundown filthy settings.

But in Leonard fashion, the bad guy, Boyd Holbrook, is really bad. He's the real star of this series, making the queasy thing worth watching. He's connected to a lot of convoluted loose ends, which so far, have not come together. I've seen 6 of the 8 parts. A weak point is Givens's 15-year old daughter, played by Olyphant's real daughter who is actually 20 years old. It doesn't fit well.

Leonard was a crime/detecvtive novel writer who lived in Detroit.

My friend was hyped up for this as she has the whole 6 seasons on dvd and watched them multiple times, So I checked it out. I kind of liked this new season so I got her dvds and started working through the seasons from 2010 to 2015. I am currently on season 5. It is a pretty great watch, some humor, lots of really bad guys, local color, and the lawman who is just a homeboy and gets along fine with all the murderers he is fighting. Season 5 seems a bit repetitive...-but I read that the last season may well be the best, so I'm in. In comparison, the new series seems a bit light on episodes and memorable characters. But I am enjoying it.

The daughter's part was written was a real turn off. The odds of her leaving the hotel in Epi 1 were 100%. I've get the rest of the series, to date, on the dvr but epi 1 was a disappointment. Will probably watch the rest we finish Manhattan.

Writers should take a look at how Bosch's teen daughter was written in Bosch.

It ain't Justified, but it ain't bad and Givens stays solid.

Do miss Boyd Crowder, but Boyd Holbrook does purty good.

Thought, overall, it was a strong 6/10 or weak 7/10. Or in other words, recommended but not UPPER or TOP tier. Agreed about Boyd Holbrook, what a fine villain. A big shout out to the showrunner(s) for shipping his daughter off to Tampa, lol
