Cpt. Piller (Claes Bang) is a Dutchman (in Canadian uniform) in charge of running down art thieves and profiteers funneling art treasure to the 3rd Reich. Enter the big fish: Han Van Meergeren (Pearce) seller of many Vermeers to Goering and other "art lovers". Beautifully set, this film offers an interesting and compelling story of a flamboyant art dealer/artist played with humor and insight offset by his accuser who begins to slowly unravel the real Van Meergeen while fending off the relentless, oddly Gestapo-like, Dutch government investigator looking for another firing squad victim.
