Directed by Lee Daniels (The Butler, Precious) takes a look at the government sting operation targeting Billie Holliday and her use of hard drugs. Andra Day gives a riveting performance as the legendary jazz singer and Daniels does a wonderful job of capturing the seedy nature of the subject matter. I have never been a fan of Ms. Holliday's voice and style of singing but I LOVE the music of that era!

To me it is incredibly magnetic, I could listen to it for hours.

The relationship of popular stars with hard drugs is an ongoing situation, we just had a discussion with my wife a few days ago - she was insisting the classical musicians don't have that problem, at least not to the same extent. I think she is mostly right.

Just to respect this legendary artist: it's "Holiday." I find it very, posted on September 7, 2021 at 07:46:48

hard to watch any of these bios of great singers: the actors never measure up and the artifice is too plain. They also, of course, play up the drama--- always negative--- and so must distort the life.

If there is an example of a classical music artist and drugs, I can't think of one....In other genres of music there are just too many to name.... AFA Billie Holiday goes, I prefer her songs when they are sung by other artists. Like this one....

There are lots of examples with violinist Eugene Fodor and heroin, Michael Tilson Thomas arrested for cocaine, Glenn Gould and many others for pills and composers like Berlioz and others for opium, Beethoven had cirrhosis, etc.

where he joked about it while talking to the audience.
He referred to when he " used to stay up late for recreational purposes."
Got a Good Laugh!

Pot is not uncommon, even with Principal Players.
I heard.

But classical musicians' lifestyle ain't the same as rockers, anyhow. , posted on September 12, 2021 at 10:26:05

A guy walks into a bar, sees a lot of women falling all over a fairly unknown rock musician in a NYC bar. He, in a loud voice, says, "I'm the concertmaster of the NY Symphony!"
I'll leave you to picture what happens next.
