I don't see much mentioned on ATMOS. Watching a new Netflix series, The Gentleman, we noticed that the sound is awesome. Enveloping. FINE imaging. Then I noticed that it is encoded via ATMOS. Any reason why I don't see anything written about it? Is it that new?

Do a Google Search on Dolby Atmos; there is a lot of information to be found.

Unless you have an Atmos setup with speakers on the ceiling, what you're hearing is just a well-recorded Dolby Digital+ soundtrack.

pbarach can tell you that my posts over on Classical are probably getting annoying because of my compulsion to mention Atmos every chance I get! Most of the Atmos recordings I experience these days are music rather than movies - via Apple Music (with their lossy streaming - which still sounds great to me!) using the Apple TV 4K device. With my discrete 5.1.4 system, I'm in Dolby Atmos heaven! ;-)

Yes, it's very impressive and you need height speakers to realize its potential. It was first used in home theater in 2016. By far Dolby's best surround sound technology.
