I don't think that it was the Fourth War, as I've seen that.......

In LA, the first cable channel ever, was Theata's The Z Channel. I saw this flick on that, so maybe from '76-'79 or so.

Distinctly, two National Guard units trigger an all out small scale battle between them up in a snowy area in America somewhere. I may be wrong on the Roy Scheider part, but I thought it might have been him. One guy gets mistakenly shot and his unit plans revenge instead of going to the cops, so they plan out that revenge over their bi-weekly forrays as part of their training/duties.

I remember one part clearly. The one unit is moving though a woody river bed thinking that they're going to 'sneak' up on the other unit for an ambush. As they begin moving up the snow covered riverbank, a bunch of white suited soldiers pop up out of foxholes that they had dug into the ground and covered with snow camouflaged boards. They had the upper hand not surprisingly and began blasting away. Kind of like the scene in the Jackie Chan movie where he's in Siberia going after the stolen nukes.

I've seen the 4th War and this isn't it.

Anyway, like THE BEAST, it was a 'soldier' flick that I'd seen before but could never find again until well after the fact.

Thanks, Chris
