'Eddington': Midsommar in New Mexico . . .

Slooooow burn then shooter's fest a'go-go. I didn't quite know what to make of this film. From the opening frames, there wasn't a single likable character introduced to me. I didn't care about any of them so I was "set up" to lose them quickly.

Eddington was a town of 2300 on the cusp of drying up and blowing away. Phoenix was a "legacy" (daddy before him) Sheriff, and Pascal was the Mexican-heritage Mayor who was a Covid warrior demanding masks everywhere. This lead to much trouble for the maskless Sheriff. Then, the conspiracy elements crept in and the movie became a zoo. Eddington, lived in near perfect peace until BLM, Antifa, other agitators got the small town motivated to mayhem while none of the inequities were present. This set the stage for a showdown of Sheriff vs. Mayor vs. agitators.

The movie takes a while before animosities simmer into shootouts and the final scenes are relentless in their pursuit of those targeted. The film ends with some crushing ironies for the Sheriff.

The only Aster film I have been passionate about was 'Hereditary' and this one reminds me of Scandanavian festival Ari took me to a few years ago.
