Interesting. Are you saying you never presume a particular quality based on your previous experience with that maker, director, writer, composer, singer, PLUS based on seeing clips and hearing other people's opinions, ***PLUS*** reading reviews by people you respect? What if all these sources, plus your predilection and insight tell a consistent story?

Pardon me if I shall not believe that.

I don't know why you keep beeting this empty drum - seems like with your rather broad experience in many things you should be able to make quick assessments based on the information from several sources... plus that thing called experience.

For the life of me I can't figure out what does being able to judge something without directly experiencing it have to do with - as you put it: being "infallible vessel of intellect".

Would you say I should reserve my judgement on the next book by Ivan Shevtsov? Why? Because he might all of a sudden stop being a rabid anti-Semite, and suddenly learn to write? Would refusing to read that new book also make me an "infallible vessel of intellect"?

Why would you deny others the right to be able to judge the LOTR in the same way? I presume your criticism stems from that LOTR discussion. Because I don't recall any other such incident, but in the LOTR case, for instance, my reaction came from several reliable sources, my own eyes, thirty years of experience, plus my own twenty minutes of suffering - if you feel I am not qualified to call it kaka after that much, then I wil take you to my opening paragraph and to Ivan's books.

I dunno... it sounds like you are being less than open on this one.
