"La Collectioneuse:" yet another brilliant film from Eric Rohmer. A

very young and beautiful young woman accepts an invitation to stay in the summer villa of an absent friend. Two men already staying there, "counter-culturalists" both, look on amused as she begins to bring home every night a different male from the nearby town.
Eventually, their mirth turns to curiosity about her views on her behavior, then consternation that they are ignored, and finally, desire enters the mix.
Rohmer chose the "actors" from among friends and friends of friends: their personalities are authentic and not dictated by script. Similarly, the dialogues and philosophical discussions are of the characters own thoughts. Perhaps this is why, in this film and "My Night at Maud's," the discussions seem alive, vibrant, and pertinent: they are not an abstraction but rather heart-felt.
The sensational young woman, who is absolutely believable as the somewhat unwitting temptress, not only seduced every male in the film: French director Carne became enchanted with her performance and cast her as the lead in his next film.
