Flickering Lights: A cheesey Danish delight . . .

I was quite bemused by the Danish dramedy telling the story of four men who nearly grew up together becoming the gang that couldn't shoot straight. I immediately recognized three of the four leads (how many Danish "stars" could there be?) and settled in for a tale of misbegotten crime and punishment.

The four had never really hit the big time and arranged for a cigarette scam. When the delivery arrived the truck was loaded with a off-brand menthol cigarette. After beating the driver nearly silly they took off thinking they had been ripped off. Of course, the "Eskimo" thought differently. He owned the cigs and expected money for his cigs no matter the brand. To save their skins they went on a job for the Eskimo and broke open a safe that contained 4MM currency. After a brief shoot out (one of the gang getting shot) they decided to "screw" the Eskimo and head for Barcelona. On the way their newly purchased "get away" van lunched its engine and they began to wander into the woods until they found an abandoned cabin. This is where the clever comedy comes into play: burying beer, shooting cows, assisting robbers, trying to tolerate each other, and opening a resturant in order to quit their life of crime.

The film is filled with really funny flashbacks to their youthful past, though some don't end so funny.

I give it a 3.5 out of 5. If you can read subtitles without moving your lips give it a shot.
