"Gran Torino:" whoever thought Eastwood

had maybe another good movie in him after, "Unforgiven," but has been disappointed now can relax. This is as good a film as you're going to see from '08, at least from Hollywood.
Sure, it has many problems, such as the idea that all ethnic neighborhoods need to fix themselves is a violent white male but.... it overcomes this daunting challenge.
Clint plays a man not unlike his stereotype but does so, this time, by revealing even more of his character, or rather his taciturn, hard-boiled screen persona. It really is hard not to think of John Wayne, especially as Eastwood ages.
But he's not a knock-off, at all, but rather a true actor who's portrayal of a grizzled and decorated Korean veteran exhausted from a life of dealing with combat ghosts surely is Oscar worthy.
The theater was packed for the noon show and there were satisfied comments, all around. Not a texting violation or other problem with the audience, except the woman rocking gently back and forth in the chair ahead of me.
