This film's premise seemd to be "OK; we have budget for a hour of CGI...what do we do with it?". This movie had a great idea, but no story. The monster and the destruction of Lower Manhatten were technically superb. Thats about all it had for me. The hand-held video technique had its value, but became really tiresome and made it a real chore to watch. Several scenes were closely copied from 9/11 events and footage, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. The party scene was interminable; five minutes would have been plenty to set things up. The subplot and characters were the std group of under-30s with issues that stood-in for a real story. Putting this weak tripe in direct competition with the main story was dopey.

I'm not a fan of the film style that just dumps the audience into a situation with no explanation and skimpy resolution. Its like starting a book in the middle and not reading the last chapter. Instead of the cinematic experiment, I'd have preferred the great CGI with a story, characters instead of caricatures, and direction by someone who didn't have ADD.

As the guy who jumped off the 20-story building shouted as he passed the 10th Floor "So far..so good!"
