Valentines Day

This is a curious piece of Hollywood.
I can only assume it was initiated at some lunch meeting as a response to films such as Paris Je T'Aime, but here the threads all link up like Crash.
I would guess you'll spot some coming and be surprised by others, either well or not.
At the start I thought too many of the characters were simply charmless but then I got won over.
One unfortunate aspect of a film like this is that you can see how interchangeable many of the women in films really are these days, especially now they have all been shrunk to the same level (bosoms apart).
In short it's one day (yes you can guess which day) in the lives of maybe 20 people in LA.
Ashton Kutcher is better than I thought him possible and makes a believable centre of the film... maybe I should have said "heart" given the Feb 14 context.
This film could have been better if it had more of the magic of Steve Martin's LA Story, LA could have become a character in its own right instead of just being what people drive through.
Like director Garry Marshall's Pretty Woman, it isn't quite as witty as it thinks it is, but that is not to say it is all bad stuff by any means at all.
Yes there are too many stories and actors and tying them together has hogtied the film, but Valentines Day (the day) is meant to be sappy and if you can leave your critical facilities at the door you might find enough of this enjoyable to make it worthwhile.'
I suspect that it will be more popular next year on DVD than this year in the cinema.
It could itself become the centre of an I Hate Valentines Day party such as the one in the film.
Approach with (a lack of) caution.
