Two Euro-Babes for the price of one... or... "So you liked the Mirror..."

As I watched Don't Look Back, the memories of Tarkovsky's Mirror kept creeping into my mind. Similar sense of initial confusion, the feeling that the creator is playing game with you was strong. As I tried to chase that feeling away, the director Marina de Van drove the final stake through my heart - there it was, in its bitten beauty, the gorgeous shot of an apple... that sealed it... for this was my favorite shot in Tark's first feature film - The Steamroller and the Violin. At this point the fate was sealed, so I sat back and accepted it.

Don't Look Back is a phychological drama... featuring Sophie Marceau and Monica Bellucci, in an apparent attempt at creating two separate internal worlds, invisibly connected and united in their total confusion. And if you thought the confusion of the Mirror was actually main part of its beauty, then you will likely flow with this story too, enjoying its turns.

Perhaps not the great film by any serious standards, it is quite entertaining, even if not totally convincing. Given the settings, and the beauty of the two main characters, it makes for a pleasant viewing.
