"Vahalla Rising": Those Dark Ages were so romantic . . .

It makes me yearn for reincarnation.....not.

Not really sure what the point of this UK/Danish delight was other than a meditation on futility and madness. Mads Mikkelsen plays "One Eye" who was held captive in a cage and used to fight for gambling purposes for his captors. Then after several graphically bloody sequences he seizes the opportunity to escape and does so. He is followed by the young boy who fed him and soon they come upon a band of Christian Vikings. There are finally accepted and invited by the Vikings in an attempt to make their way to Jerusalem in time for the First Crusade.

There is a terrible voyage of nothing but mist and doldrums which drives some to drink salt water and others to believe they are cursed by the blond boy. Soon enough the mist breaks and they are in the Holy Land. The Holy Land until one of their band is pierced through with a stone arrowhead.

Meditation is the word here. The action is sporadic and the time between is cinematographers quest to make beautiful frames and keep people interested. There are such lapses that I am reminded of a few Russian movies.

I streamed this one...it was released available for streaming so you don't have to waste any extra time. That is if you really want to meditate on how good we have it, Great Recession or not.
