A terrific lineup, a director known for his scathing social commentary: "Far From the Madding Crowd," the

seventies John Schlesinger film based on the classic eponymous Hardy novel stars Julie Christie (looking her most fetching, vulnerable, clear-eyed), Peter Finch (was there ever a more tortured soul?), Terrence Stamp (almost as pretty as Christie....), and Alan Bates (a shepherd that speaks like an Oxford Don...).
Not a great film, but the females in attendance appreciated it very much and it does move along. Not an expletive, fist-fight, FX, or chase scene, either.
