"Battleship": C'mon, it's an homage to M Bay and the Navy . . . .

This is a kid's movie and they will have daddy by the hand lined up to see it. Hasboro has got them by the un-dropped ones. There was a lot of inspired imagination that went into this vehicle honoring Hasboro's game by the same name. There was a whale of a lot of transforming going on also. The CGI was pretty outstanding. In the beginning those brief scenes of skyscrapers falling gave me a flash of 9/11 heebie-jeebies.

The early trailers betray the actual action. "Big Mo" in NOT on naval games and Liam Neeson never gets near her. She comes in much, much later. With a ghost crew from the past.

Ironically, the story begins with NASA's wonderful intentions of sending signals to Planet G which is the closest "Goldilocks planet" to us. Sure enough, we get a Stephen Hawking nightmare response. There is drama and light comedy to break up the destruction of a bunch of stuff. Since there are a lot of military personnel with speaking parts you will never think you are watching 'The Caine Mutiny'.

Talk about payback: In one of the first "on the bridge" scenes is our ex-governor and current Secretary of the Navy, Ray Mabus. Ray has one line and doesn't blow it.

Guys, if you got to escort little ones go ahead. You'll enjoy it more than you would ever admit to here.

Good Point: Liam Neeson isn't in the movie very long.

Bad Point: Brooklyn Decker wears all her clothes except for a brief halter top encounter.

Okay, who does the heavy lifting around here? Who mops up the dirty film? Who's yer daddy?

PS. I read a review that quoted Berg (director) as saying they know it's a dumb movie (so to speak). They have no illusions about this.
