"The Grissom Gang:" tough old-style crime film from a master of that genre: Robert Aldrich. Kim Darby,

that spunky girl in the original "True Grit" film, here plays a young heiress kidnapped by the Ma Grissom family gang. The simpleton brother, very well played in a fashion mostly devoid of irritating mannerisms and cliches, takes "a liking" to the girl with devastating consequences for all involved. Scott Wilson, who became famous for his role as one of the killers in "In Cold Blood," shows why he continued on for four decades in similar roles: he brings a sensitivity and depth to evil that most actors cannot or will not.
This film begins with its date of release, 1971, blaring from the score but, after a somewhat tedious start, it becomes tenser and tenser as the noose begins to tighten around the family.
SO much better than current crime efforts: no FX, instead, actual humans carry the plot and the writers came up with, SHOCKING to tell, dialogue and scenes that stand alone.
Grab some popcorn, a few cold ones, and settle down for some fine entertainment, old-school.
