'The Monitor': Escape to insanity. . .

Anna (Noomi Rapace) and her young son escape her physically abusive husband and are moved to a secret apartment in a large building. Anna is very frightened for her son and does whatever she can to protect him. Once she is forced to re-enter her son into public school she meets an electronics salesman while purchasing a baby monitor to place in her son's room. Helge is attracted to her but Anna is somewhat reluctant to let other men into their lives until she starts hearing strange things through the new baby monitor. Anna then befriends Helge to help her understand what is going on in the large building they live in.

There isn't anything particularly ground-breaking in this film as it follows its genre's mapping quite closely. But, for a brief moment, it shows a truly heart-in-the-throat moment at the end that is quite haunting.

The film is Norwegian. I give it 2 outta 5..
