RE: I'd also add The Blue Max to that list.

One of my favorites, in any case.

The Blue Max (1966)

I'd hesitate to include The Aviator (2004) or Amelia (2009)to the list simply because neither of these attempts at movie making provided a memorable experience for me.

There are probably more worthy additions but The Blue Max gave us a window into the fading days of WW1 Germany's war machine. And it was an interesting juxtaposition of the low born versus high born fighting in the same unit, etc.

I'd hesitate to add The Dawn Patrol (1938) with Errol Flynn, Basil Rathbone and David Niven,. WW1 fighter pilots again. Kind of a buddy flick WW1 style filled with corny sentiments about bravery and honor and so ridiculous as to be not really very involving. But fun if in the right frame of mind for it.
