'The Dark Sea': Cops & Hookers - Italian Style

We open with Luca (Italian detective) ushering his new live-in girlfriend into his pad. Veronica, played by the alluring Anna Mouglalis, proves to be a playful vixens of sorts. Then Luca gets that middle-of-the-night call that sucks him into the investigation of a high class hooker and student who liked it kinky. From there Luca descends into obsession propelled by the case and his live-in's behavior.

This is a moody piece with a big dollop of Italian style filled with both darkness, color, and the immersion into prostitution. Luigi Lo Cascio plays the man drowning in hookers and bad behavior. He reminds me of what Dustin Hoffman would have looked like if he were Italian. Mouglalis has her French alluring powers set to 11 and the lovely corpse is played by Andrea Osvart who figures prominently.

No, this isn't going to propel Italian Cinema over the top (made in 2006) but it has an interesting look and characters as well.
