'The Hundred-Foot Journey' : Another delightful Old Folks movie . .

If yer old, you will enjoy this film. If yer infirm, you will thrill to this film. If you keep yer teeth in a glass, you will enjoy this film. If yer passing gas, then you've eaten some of the cooking in this film.

Yeah, not exactly the "Exotic Marigold 1" but okay. Mirren plays the frosty, domineering owner of a small Michelin restaurant in rural Frawnce. After the loss of her husband she threw herself into the chase for getting another Michelin Star.

Our hapless Indian family fleeing from the disquiet of political unrest literally crash into the village in their brake-less van. Om Puri seizes the opportunity to buy the abandoned hulk of a restaurant across from Mirren's snooty joint. Envy and competition ensue and Manish Dayal pursues culinary excellence and the lovely junior chef working for Mirren.

The trailers tell the whole story. There really may not be a reason to sit through 2 hrs 01 min of hot, flash, cinematic fury this film really lacks. Dripping "Exotic Marigold" formula, this film delivers okay performances to a very tired and predictable plot. Even the "food" scenes are lacking by the fact they don't last long enough to make one's tummy grumble.

Maybe Oprah and Spielberg were into the Sherry when they signed onto this one. It could have been better with more of an edge.
