"The Silence:" in a small German town, a young girl is murdered, a copycat killing of a crime

that occurred exactly 23-years earlier. The policeman that spent years unsuccessfully attempting to solve the first one helps a younger detective fighting his own demons: the memories of a recently deceased wife. But, as time goes on, and with no clues of worth, it appears both crimes may go unsolved.
This isn't a scary film in the "Psycho" mold; it's more of a slow burn horror and examination of what such violence does not only to the victims' families, but sometimes to the perpetrators.
Not a great film, but it is worthwhile if for nothing else than its originality and the skill of the actors: German art film fans ("The White Ribbon," for instance) will recognize some actors.
If you "enjoyed" the brilliant "Memories of Murder," you'll be entertained by this lesser effort.
